Implications of the Interacting Mind - Part 3

Today we will focus on two topics – The personification of Being and the impact of Time on the evolution of Matter.

Personification of Being

Our discussions on the properties of Mind and Matter have led us to the conclusion that Matter realizes itself through Mind resulting in the formation of a personalized representation of its being. This is a non-trivial statement. To give concrete examples of its implication, consider the human being; we know that the cluster of units of Matter that make up what we have come to identify as the human body realizes itself through the human Mind, i.e. the unique Group Mind associated with the body. Therefore, the implication is that this realization gives form to the Being of the cluster of Matter that makes up the body by personalizing it. In other words, what the human senses perceive to be the human body is nothing but an illusion in the sense that it is not the true form of the actual units of Matter. The human body as we know it and see it, is simply what the cluster of cells that make up the body perceives to be the personalized representation of its Being based on what it's Mind – the Group Mind, tells it.

The concept of personalization is very important because it is the only process by which we are able to concretize the world within and around us.

Fig. 1 illustrates the principle of concretization. We see that the world we perceive has nothing to do with the true nature of Matter or Mind, it is simply the by-product of Matter working with Mind in accordance with the dictates of Evolution. In other words Matter can never be able to perceive the Mind. It can only perceive its Personality, which is itself the result of the fusion between Mind and Matter.

The Impact of Time on the evolution of Matter

In the preceeding posts, we arrived at the conclusion that the formation of Group Mind is directly dependent on the characteristic of time-moment experienced by the composite units of Matter. We also concluded that there are two types of time-moment, intrinsic time and relative time. The former gives rise to unique Group Mind and the latter to virtual Group Mind. The moment of time at any given energy level constrains the manner in which Matter communicates with Mind in its bid to realize itself. In other words, time is the most crucial factor needed to quantify the evolution of the life of Matter. The constraints of time give shape, depth, and substance to Experience, which is what the Mind uses as input data to form the personality, which in turn is what enables Matter to realize itself. Thus, time can be used to describe the evolution of Matter through its cycles of birth–maturity–death.

Fig. 2 is a three-dimensional plot represented only in two-dimensions to illustrate the evolution of Matter at an arbitrary energy level as it uses Experience to realize itself through its Mind. The third dimension, space, is not shown here for simplicity. The green box represents Mind. It sits inside a potential well, which has boundaries of space and time(Matter). The evolution of Matter is along the x-axis and is a non-trivial function of both intrinsic and relative time which combine in a non-trivial manner to form Experience. Experience thus defines the evolution of life of Matter at any energy level. Three sections have been selected arbitrarily in the graph to denote key phases in the acquisition of Experience by Matter as it evolves. Note that the plotted distribution is a simplistic approximation of what the true distribution would look like.

Phase A – Birth:

During this phase there is a sharp exponential-like increase in the acquisition of Experience by Matter as Mind sucks in the “input data” – Experience, in order to give definition to the personality so that Matter attains an increasingly defined realization of its own being. Note that at the instant of birth, Mind is already fully formed. This must be the case since the template structure of Matter itself is already fully formed at birth. The Mind however is blank, docile, and not able to perform any work until it begins to receive data from Matter in the form of Experience. A crude analogy would be to consider electric current. It flows around passively in cables and wires in our homes. And only when an electric bulb is connected to a socket does the electric current perform work by generating light.

Consider the human being. It is the most complex single conglomerate of Matter on earth. At birth, the baby has a fully formed and functional Mind. The baby however is without the skills that are commonplace with adults, for example, thinking logically, speaking words, walking, running etc. This is because it has not yet formed the personality with which it can define and concretize the external and internal world. So, the baby begins to interact with the environment from its first breadth. It starts off by crying, sucking, moving its arms and feet, etc. Then it graduates to crawling, making sounds, laughing, and eventually walking and talking and so on. These are all vital Experiences, which are essential for the baby’s progress. The Mind takes these Experiences as data and uses it to form a personality that empowers the baby to interact and communicate with the environment in a specific way. The personality that is formed is unique to the baby only. It is a function of the energy and intrinsic time of the units of Matter of which the baby is composed. It is also a function of the energy and relative time of all other units of Matter in Creation.

Phase B – Maturity:

During this phase, the rate at which Matter accrues Experience reaches its peak and flattens out. The consequence is that the template structure of the personality is fully formed. The ability of Matter to concretize the world around it is at its peak. Matter has now attained a full realization of its personality, i.e. it’s Being. With regards to the human being, this would correspond to adulthood.

Phase C – Death:

During this phase, the rate of accrual of Experience peters out. Using the example of the electric bulb, this phase would be analogous to the bulb dying out due to wear and tear of the element. The current still flows but is unable to get through. Similarly, Mind becomes increasingly inactive. Very little work is done by way of adding to the depth of the personality. Matter becomes increasingly disconnected from its Mind. With regards to human beings, this would correspond to death.

It is worth emphasising here that the y-axis in Fig. 2 tells us that there is no limit to how strong or deep the Personality can be. In other words there is no limit to the clarity with which Matter is able to realize its own being. The development of Matter is solely dependent on the nature, volume and type of its experiences. With respect to human beings this would explain why socio-economic and technological progression increases with successive generations, because each generation starts off learning where its predecessors left off by swimming in the ripples created by their experiences.

An interesting question to ponder at this point would be what happens before birth and what happens after death? In other words, what does the evolution of matter look like in the pre birth and post death phases of existence at a given energy level? This is a valid question because we know that in existence there is no such thing as a beginning or an end. However, to answer this would require an understanding of the impact of space on the evolution of Matter. This will be the subject of another posting.

Implications of the Interacting Mind – Part 2

In the post “Moving towards a Quantitative Understanding of Mind – Part 3”, we arrived at the conclusion that the interaction between the energy potential of units of Matter led to the formation of Group Mind. We also concluded that there are two types of Group Mind that can be formed – a Unique Group Mind and a Virtual Group Mind. The former is formed between units of Matter for which the condition t1 ≈ t2 ≈ t3 ... ≈ tn, and E1≈ E2, ≈ E3, ... ≈ En holds, while the latter is formed when t1 ≠ t2 ≠ t3 ... ≠ tn, while E1≠ E2, ≠ E3, ... ≠ En is true. In the first instance, the Group Mind that is formed is unique because it is directly associated with Matter because all its component units conform to a single moment of intrinsic time. In the second instance, the Group Mind that is formed is virtual because it is not associated with any unique moment of intrinsic Mind. It is associated simultaneously to all possible moments of intrinsic time. And in so doing exerts an influence on all Matter that go towards its formation. We also gave a few examples of unique Group Mind – e.g, the Mind of a human being, the Mind of a Dog, cat, Plant, and so on. Examples of virtual Group Mind are Society, Company, Government, Any enterprise that involves more than one person, A hive of bees, A pack of wolves, a school of fish, a gaggle of geese, and so on the list is endless.

These examples make us immediately aware of a few important points:
  • The collection of units of Matter expresses itself as a single unit through the Group Mind. This is beautifully expressed by the human body, which expresses itself as a single unit through the human Mind.
  • Similarly the collection of any group of individually unique units of Matter can only express itself as a single unit through the virtual Group Mind which controls their behaviour and interaction with each other as a single unit. This statement is verified by observing the behavioural patterns of any group of animals – bees, of wolves, human beings, birds, etc.
  • Just as the unique Group Mind gets its input data from the experiences of the single cluster of Matter, e.g the human being, so too does the virtual Group Mind get its input data from the aggregate experiences of the collective clusters of Matter. In other words, just as the various aspects of the unique Group Mind is formed from experiences e.g. emotional, mental, analytical aspects of the human Mind, so too the various aspects of the Virtual Group Mind is formed and given strength, e.g societal law and order, religion, ethics, and all the various sectors of society.
The last bullet point immediately brings to mind an earlier topic that was discussed – demand. It becomes obvious that response to the phenomena of demand is what generates the experiences that the virtual Group Mind uses as input data.

The virtual Group Mind that is associated with the collective must dominate the unique Group Mind that is associated with the single cluster of Matter. In other words, any cluster of Matter can and must express itself through its unique Group Mind and the virtual Group Mind. This explains the mechanism of the vehicle through which the principle of Evolution (link) carries out her prime objective. It also brings to our attention the fact that for complex clusters of Matter, for example, human beings, there will always be friction between the individual and group Minds trying to exert their influence simultaneously. This friction is in large part responsible for the problems we face in society today.

Implications of the Interacting Mind – Part 1

In the post “Moving towards a Quantitative Understanding of Mind – Part 2”, we arrived at the conclusion that Matter occurs simultaneously in multiple moments of time due to the conditions of non-unique space and unique intrinsic time at each energy level that are necessary to ensure the conservation of total energy. We also arrived at the conclusion that the uniqueness of intrinsic time implies that space at each energy level will vibrate at a unique composite of frequencies compared to the space at any other level.

This statement has far reaching consequences, the first of which is the conclusion that since the essence of space is the same throughout all the energy levels of Matter, then this must imply that Matter can be perceived, manifested or measured at any energy level irrespective of the moment of intrinsic time. So for example, the human being is capable of perceiving and realizing itself through its Mind, at any energy level – Dream state, Spirit or Soul state. This implies mean that any unit of Matter must possess multiple selves or to use a more technical expression, multiple reflections of itself all of which exist in the same space but at different moments of intrinsic time.

This raises further questions of which the most important is how can Matter quantify its realization of its own reflections. In other words, take for example, the human being who is able to perceive its reflects in the in the dream state, spirit state or soul state, what is actually being observed; is it the true form of the Matter that makes up the body at each energy level or is it rather an interpretation of the true form? And if so, what is the true form like at each energy level and how it be realized?

The answer lies in understanding the concept of relative perception. Since it is clear that intrinsic time in not unique at each energy level, this means that space at a given level must vibrate at a different composite of frequencies compared to other levels. This in turn means that manifestation of Matter at any given level is unique. Consequently, Matter would interact with its environment through a different set of experiences and would thus realize itself through its Mind in a unique way. Thus Matter at a given energy level or state, say, the ground state can realize itself at any other energy state. However, it would only be able to do so at a moment of intrinsic time that is relative to the natural intrinsic time of its ground state. In other words, a unit of Matter at a given energy state will never be able to perceive itself separately and simultaneously at a different energy state. This would be tantamount to having multiple ground states and existing simultaneously at all of them. This is why for example when a human being observes himself or herself in say, a dream, or a thought exercise, there must always be a reference point. This reference point is the evolution of intrinsic time in the natural ground state (the body) to which everything else is compared. As a result, the realization of the self will be different at any energy level (state) other that the ground state.

However, this perception only pertains to the unit of Matter in question as it attempts to realize itself. The opposite would be true of an external observer. In other words, if it were possible for such an observer to, for instance, view the different manifestations of a unit of Matter at all its energy levels simultaneously, the observer would not be able to distinguish between the multiple manifestations of Matter. All of them would appear as being exactly the same.

This is interesting because it would appear to imply that the realization of the self by any unit of Matter can only be as a function of its own intrinsic time. This is not strictly speaking true. In order for any unit of Matter to realize itself fully, i.e. to maximise the full potential of its Mind, it must interact and must posses the ability to quantify to some degree the extent of this interaction. This interaction has two components – the self and the environment. Interaction with the self is realized by quantifying the evolution of the self in moments of intrinsic time. Interaction with the external environment on the other hand is realized by quantifying the evolution of the self relative to the environment, in other words, using relative time. This implies that for any unit of Matter in creation, time has two components – intrinsic time and relative time.

This has very interesting consequences for the world of science, particularly as science neglects the property of intrinsic time and deals only with relative time. The impact of intrinsic time will be discussed in forthcoming posts.

Moving towards a Quantitative Understanding of Mind – Part 3

In Part 2, we discussed two consequences that arose from our discovery that Matter is energy bounded by space and time (E(s,t)), while Mind is the potential of this energy (P_E(s,t)). In this post, we will discuss the third consequence.

The third consequence is that since Matter stretches to infinity then, i.e. has the probability to exist everywhere, this must imply that any single unit of Matter, in the cauldron of dynamic creation, is in contact with every other unit of Matter – the differentiating factor being simply the moments of unique intrinsic time, t1, t2, t3 ... tn, etc, associated with each localized unit. This implies that the energy potential(Mind) of a unit of Matter, at any instant in time, is in direct contact with the energy potential of all other units of Matter – with the degree of interaction between units being simply a function of the degree of polarization of the energy potential of each unit. In other words, the total interaction potential energy in creation at any given point, P_E(s,t)_interaction, is proportional to the combined effect of P_E(s,t)1, P_E(s,t)2, P_E(s,t)3, P_E(s,t), ... P_E(s,t)n, of all units of Matter involved. Another way of putting this is that the strength of Mind at any point in Creation is a function of the combination of all other Minds that interact with it.

This statement has immediate ramifications.

The first is that the combination of the energy potential of units of interacting Matter lead to the formation of GROUP MIND. This would imply that the Mind associated with a human being, i.e. the human Mind, is actually a Group Mind formed from the combination and interaction of the energy potential of all the composite unit cells that make up the human body. It is worth pointing out that the combination of all unit cells that make up the body can only be possible if all the cells share a common localization of intrinsic time. Therefore, the Group Mind that arises from this must be unique - unique in the sense that it is directly and simultaneously associated with all the units of Matter that gave rise to it. This is illustrated in part A of the figure below which shows how the combination of two units of Matter with energy E1 and E2, and with intrinsic time t1 and t2, where t1 ≈ t2 and E1 ≠ E2, lead to the formation of a unique Group Mind. The Group Mind formed here is unique because of the condition t1 ≈ t2 and E1 ≠ E2.

Examples of clusters of matter that exhibit a unique Group Mind are human beings, plants, inanimate objects, and anything visible that is made up of two or more separate units of matter.

However, in a situation where the localization of intrinsic time of the units of interacting Matter is not common to all units, a Group Mind will be formed that is not unique to any of the composite units of Matter. The Group Mind that is formed in this case may be considered virtual because it cannot be solely or directly associated with any one unit of matter. Thus, a virtual Group Mind can only be formed between interacting matter if the following conditions are satisfied: t1 ≠ t2 ≠ t3 ... ≠ tn, while E1≠ E2, ≠ E3, ... ≠ En. This is illustrated in part B of the diagram. Examples of virtual Group Mind are the Group Mind associated with a family, society, tribe, country, business company and so on. It is important to note that the virtual nature of the Group Mind will not in any way detract from its existence or potency.

Two things become immediately obvious. The first is to find out what the obvious differences between a Group Mind and a virtual Group Mind are. And the second is to find out what the consequences of these differences are. This however will be the topic of another post.

AS a footnote, it is important to realise that it is impossible to have a Group Mind that is formed from units of Matter where t1 ≈ t2 ≈ t3 ... ≈ tn and E1 ≈ E2, ≈ E3, ... ≈ En. This would imply that it is possible to have separate identical units of Matter existing in the same space and in the same moment of time. This is not possible. Pauli's exclusion principle explains why this is the case.

Moving towards a Quantitative Understanding of Mind – Part 2

In the previous post - Part 1, we discovered that Matter is energy bounded by space and time, i.e. E(s,t), while Mind is the potential of this energy, i.e. P_E(s,t). This has consequences with respect to how matter interacts. We will discuss two of these consequences in this post. The third consequence is discussed in Part 3.

The first consequence becomes obvious from our knowledge of Quantum Physics in which Matter is known to behave both as a particle and as a wave. This observed duality of Matter can be encapsulated mathematically by the use of a probability density function, which enables us to localize matter by quantifying its probability to exist at a given location in a given moment of time. In other words, matter has the probability to exist everywhere, i.e. from -∞ to +∞. From this it is obvious that space associated with any given unit of Matter can be visualized as a composite of infinite vibrations oscillating at infinite number of possible frequencies. The presence of time therefore localizes space to a given moment and this is the reason why Matter can be quantified and measured.

The second consequence is that since the localization of Matter is only made possible by time, this must mean that time is intrinsic and thus must be unique – this statement is in perfect agreement with the tenets of our paradigm and is illustrated in the diagram below. The inverted cone represents the totality of Matter and Mind bounded by space and time. Outside the cone is the energy of creation. Within the cone is the energy of Matter, i.e. the potential of which describes Mind. The different slices of the cone represent the different levels of the energy at each of which time, t1, t2, t3, ... tn, is unique. Time is unique at each level due to the unique frequency of vibration of space at that level. Remember that space itself is not unique. It is the same throughout all energy levels. It only manifests differently at each level due to the uniqueness of the frequency of its vibration at that level. Thus, the total energy at each level is conserved. This statement has far reaching consequences. They will however be the subject of another posting.

Moving towards a Quantitative Understanding of Mind – Part 1

Thus far, we have considered the definition of Mind and Matter purely on a philosophical and rather abstract basis. It is time now to move towards a quantitative understanding of Mind. Before we begin, I will reiterate certain points: that Matter and Mind are two sides of the same coin and that Matter is a direct consequence of Creation transiting from a state of non-dynamism to a state of dynamism under the injection of an impulse which we can only refer to as the “First Cause”. It is worth pointing out that it is not necessary to try to understand the nature or origin of this “First Cause” since it does not in any way prevent us from understanding the nature of matter itself.

Now since we know that creation is energy and Matter is dynamic creation, therefore this must imply that Matter is dynamic energy. We also know from our paradigm that Matter is manifested as a composite of space and time. This must imply that Matter is energy bounded by space and time.

Mind, on the other hand, we know to be that aspect of creation which Matter uses to realize its own being. Since we also know that Matter achieves this by passing on the experiences of its interaction with the environment to Mind, this must imply that Mind is simply a state of energy waiting to perform work by using experiences as “input data”. Consequently, this implies that Mind is simply the potential of the energy that is bounded by space and time. In other words, Matter is energy bounded by space and time, E(s,t) while Mind is the potential of this energy, P_E(s,t). The potential can subsequently assume varying states of polarization depending on the type of input data, i.e. experiences, which it receives.

The existence of E(s,t) and P_E(s,t) has interesting consequences. These consequences will be studied in the next Part 2.

Aspects of the Mind

The attempt to understand how the Mind works has led to the introduction of concepts such as consciousness, intelligence, thought, imagination, will, sentience and so on. Even so, the relationship between these concepts and the nature of Mind is still not properly understood. It is not clear whether these concepts are variations of one another or whether they reflect independent properties of the Mind. So it is no surprise that there are many theories in literature concerning the origin and dynamics of the Mind and it’s attributes. The purpose of this post however, is not to explore the various theories but rather to consider the concept of Mind and its properties in relation to the paradigm of Mind and Matter.

According to the paradigm, Mind is the vehicle that Matter uses to realize its own being. The paradigm makes us understand that realization is not possible without the input of Experience by Matter into Mind through conduit of Awareness. This connection between Mind, Matter, Awareness and Experience is illustrated in Fig A. below.

The key to remember here is that all three aspects, Mind, Matter and Awareness exist simultaneously. None can exist without the other. Matter and Mind are two sides of the same coin literally speaking while Awareness is the sheath through that wraps around Experience thus enabling it to be delivered and used by the Mind.

Remembering from the paradigm that Matter is Creation condensed in space and time, we could make an intuitive leap to the suggestion that Matter could be thought of as states of polarisation of Creation, where Creation can be visualized as a dynamic potential well with special properties as explained here. In this case, the sum over all possible polarisation states of the potential well would constitute the totality of the Mind. This makes sense since Matter can only realize itself by injecting the Mind with Experiences as shown in Fig A. Now the potential well can have an infinite array of possible polarisation states, implying that Mind can have an infinite array of polarisation states or levels.

So how are the polarisation states connected to Experience? In other words, what role does experience have to play in shaping the Mind? Well, the answer is that different experiences give rise to unique polarisation states. And these unique polarisation states embody various aspects of the Mind. In other words, the various aspests of the Mind, for example, the objective mind, embody a set of polarisation states of the mind that handle specific types of experience. This implies that Matter can only realize itself in a given polarized state depending on what is experienced. For example, man realizes that he is aware of his self and the environment through the use of his sight, sound, taste, etc. In this instance, all phenomena that are realized through the use of sight encapsulate a specific type of experience. Sight itself is the sheath of awareness that arises from the complex matter composition of the organ we call the eye. The realization of sight can only take place because of the polarization of a specific aspect of Mind in response to the input experience via the specific awareness of sight.
It is important not to confuse awareness with the concept of consciousness. Consciousness, unlike awareness can never be switched off. As long as Matter exists so does Awareness. The two are inseparable.

Therefore, to summarize, all aspects of the Mind, e.g. Consciousness, Will, Imagination, etc embody specific states of polarization of the Mind And these states of polarisation are defined by Experience obtained from the interaction of matter with the environment in accordance to the laws of Evolution. It becomes obvious that to understand the dynamics of these various states of polarisation, not only between one another but also in relation to the states of polarisation of other Minds associated with other Matter, the nature of Experience – its purpose and dynamics, must be thoroughly understood. This is the only way to uncover and tap fully into the potential of Mind. It is worth noting here that Mind itself cannot grow. Its complexity is a direct function of the complexity of Matter. However, its potential be used to in achieving full realization of the psyche of Matter is unlimited. The level to which this can be achieved is determined only by the data that is pumped into the Mind by way of Experience – in the same way that the forces that electromagnetic force remains unchanged in its nature and characteristic but is unlimited in its technological applications.

The Nature and Importance of Experience

What is Experience? Why is it important and how does it play a role in the development of Mind? Well, as I explained in the previous posting, Experience is that which results when matter interacts with the environment. Experience is the input data used by Mind to enable Matter attain a realization of its own Being. Without Experience, Mind remains inert and consequently Matter cannot realize its own being. It is important to note that following our definition of life, all Matter – organic or not, possess life. Taking the human being as a case study, examples of how Experience defines the human beings realization of the self are: the use of sight, sound, speech, smell and touch. These attributes, which are obtained from the interaction between certain parts of the body and the external environment, are all subject to the law of evolution. The law of evolution is the law of interaction. Under its omnipresent influence, all that is contained within Creation must interact in order to preserve its state of dynamism. The fact that the human being is able to interact using the property of sight, sound, speech, smell and touch, is only due to the fact that it happens to arbitrarily posses the appropriate organs to enable the realization of certain types of Experience, which we arbitrarily label sound, smell and so on. It could just as easily have been otherwise.

We have stated that the Mind is unchanging. It is a reservoir of energy without purpose or direction but waiting to be used. The input of Experience gives it direction and purpose. Consequently, work is performed. Experience defines the world we live in. With regards to sentient Matter, taste, touch, sight, smell and sound are all types of Experiences that are made possible by the level of complexity of certain organs, i.e. tongue, skin, eye, nose and ear. This implies that the level of complexity of Matter enables the realization of certain types of Experiences. This is because since Matter can assume an infinite number of complex variations, it can realize Experience in an infinite number of ways. More importantly, the link between Matter and Mind through Experience implies that Matter will never reach its full potential until the Mind is fully developed.

To give a clear example of how Experience plays a vital role in shaping our lives, we shall follow the hypothetical life of a human being from birth through adolescence, adulthood and finally death.
At the instant just before a baby is born into the world, it is blind to everything – all sensations, sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. The only thing it has to go by are the sensations experienced in the womb of its mother. These sensations prepare its Mind for what is to come when birth finally occurs. At birth the baby’s Mind is still not developed. By this I mean, that even though at birth the baby’s Mind has already formed all the various aspects – subconscious, subjective, objective, etc, courtesy of the complexity of its organs, it is unable to express itself because it’s Mind hasn’t had the requisite input of data in the form of Experience. The baby however is Aware. And so what one observes is that the baby is constantly interacting with the environment – gurgling, laughing, grunting, crying, staring, moving its limbs, etc, in an attempt to use its Awareness to feed its Mind with Experiences (which we must remember it is compelled to do by virtue of the active principle of Evolution that permeates its Being). The result is that its Mind becomes strengthened with each passing moment. Consequently, a personality that is unique to the child slowly begins to emerge which is a function of the Experiences that have been fed to the Mind.

This brings us to a crucial point. And this is that the uniqueness of the baby’s personality is a direct consequence of the Experiences that are fed into its Mind. Acknowledging the fact that each human being is unique, i.e. subtly different in physical make up, this implies that all human beings will realize the same Experience in a unique way. In other words, for example, if asked to look upon a random object, say, a stone, every human being will perceive it differently because the physical make up of the eye of each person varies in a very subtle manner. The same applies to the sense of smell, tasting, and so on.
And so coming back to the baby, we find that as the years go by, the baby is able to increasingly express itself from a unique perspective and thus it develops a personality that is unique to it only. When the baby reaches adolescence, and becomes a teenager however, its personality undergoes significant change, which will stay with it for the rest of its life. It is a change that provides the teenager with the tool to deepen its Mind and in the process realize its own Being even more fully. This is a crucial time in the life of the teenager because whatever is experienced during this period will define how well he or she is able to realize and balance all aspects of Mind. This in turn will determine how well the teenager is able to interact with his/her self and the external environment i.e. society.

So why does the child’s personality undergo such drastic change during its adolescence? Well the reason is that during this period, in preparation for progression into adulthood, the body produces hormones, which act as catalysts for the introduction of major changes to the overall Matter composition of the body. The teenager gets bigger in size, puts on more bones and muscle, becomes more masculine or feminine, etc. The change in the Matter composition of the body results in an increase in complexity of the total Matter composition of the body. Thus, this will result in a consequent change in the perception and interpretation of any subsequent Experience obtained from interaction with the environment. This change in perception and interpretation of Experience is what results in a change of the personality. Note that the frame of the personality will remain the same but the depth of the frame will change.

Since the personality is the sum total of all aspects of Mind, a change in depth of the personality will affect the growth of the various aspects of Mind. If the depth of the personality changes uniformly then this implies a balanced personality. In reality however, this is not usually the case. During adolescence, the body grows so fast and the world suddenly seems different – almost alien, so much so, that in a bid to adapt, the teenager is forced to favour certain experiences over others. This leads to an unbalanced personality. After coming out of adolescence, the teenager subconsciously spends the rest of his or her life seeking out those experiences that will restore the simple balance of pre-teen years. The teenager will have the best opportunity to find this balance in old age in the years leading up to death for the simple reason that the body growth has virtually ceased and change in perception of experienced has slowed considerably.

It is important to bear in mind that an unbalanced personality is the hallmark of evolving complex matter. And as such there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it. It is inevitable. However, where it becomes a problem is with regards to the traits in promotes in human beings that run contrary to the progression of society a single unit. Some of these traits are greed, selfishness, lust for power, and so on, all of which, it must be noted are natural and only become disruptive when viewed in the context of the greater good – the Group.

So the question now becomes: how can the flaws in human nature, which are caused by an unbalanced personality, be corrected so that all members of society can co-exist in harmony leading to the elimination of social injustice and inequality? Well, the answer lies in learning to embrace and actively seek out all types of Experiences since different types of Experiences develop different aspects of the Mind. This will eliminate fear, uncertainty and guilt, which in turn will allow each human being to explore, without reservation, the self and the environment. This implies that that the human being will have put himself or herself in the best possible position to obey the prime directive of Creation, which is to evolve. The human being will experience a total realization of all aspects of his or her Mind. And this will result in perfect harmony with all Life.

This is the ultimate goal of every human being. It is what we subconsciously strive to do with our every waking breadth. All our endeavours in reacting to demand by trying to understand the self, the environment in which we live and how the two interact, is in response to our desire to achieve perfect harmony with all life. The best period in which to learn how to achieve this is just before adolescence. Our children must be taught to embrace all experiences in order to eliminate fear. When fear is eliminated, a strong, clear and balanced sense of self is established. In other words, all the facets of the personality, which is Matter’s realization of its self will be fully recognized and acknowledged. More importantly however, our children must be taught to interpret their experiences with respect to the expectations of the Group will i.e. of society’s will. This is the only way to preserve harmony within the self and with society. It is the only way forward. It is the only way to eliminate poverty, uneven distribution of wealth, crime and all the ills of society.

The Paradigm of Matter and Mind

To understand the link between Mind and Matter, it will be necessary to introduce the concepts of Mind and Matter.

Matter

Matter can be defined loosely as anything that can be realized as a physical aspect of life. In other words, anything that is experienced as a physical object is matter. Since life is Creation, this implies that matter is the physical aspect of Creation. The question then becomes why is it necessary for Creation to have a physical aspect. Who or what defines a physical aspect. The answers to these questions are to be found in the Paradigm of Mind and Matter.

Mind

What is Mind? Popular perception is that Mind is a concept that embodies a series of functions that stem from the brain. Some even go as far as suggesting that the Mind is the brain, in other words, without the brain there is no Mind. If true, this implies that any matter that is not sentient and does not possess a brain does not possess Mind. This cannot be true. There is a lot that is unknown about the nature, origin or purpose of Mind. Therefore, there is no reason to exclude the possibility of an intrinsic link between Mind and Matter – be it organic or inorganic.

So, what is the link between Mind and Matter? Well, we are sure that there must be a link for the simple reason that since Mind is an aspect of Creation, as is Matter, then they must both be subject to the same laws of Evolution. This crucial link between Mind and Matter will enable us to derive a paradigm that describes their interaction.

Mind has many observed aspects, such as consciousness, intellect, thought, perception, etc. What is the link between them all? This answer is to be found in the paradigm of Mind and Matter.

The Paradigm of Mind and Matter

This is the paradigm of Mind and Matter:
  • Before the beginning was a sea of Existence – which was characterized by a state of infinite potential without any boundaries. Because it was without any boundaries, the sea of existence was without form or purpose. It was non-dynamic. It was in a state of Pre-Creation.
  • Pre-Creation was injected with an impulse which imposed boundary conditions on its “potential well” thus giving rise to internal dynamism resulting in the state of Being...which is Creation.
  • The Principle of Evolution is the personification of this impulse. Its only purpose is the enforcement and maintenance of dynamism in and of Creation.
  • Creation results from the transformation of Pre-Creation due to the intervention of Evolution.
  • Matter is the condensation of Being in space and time.
  • Mind is the Personification of Being.
  • Mind is formed in the instant Being is formed. In other words, Mind has existed for as long as Creation has existed.
  • Condensation occurs in a quantum like manner. This is because throughout the process of condensation, the energy remains the same, but the frequency of vibration reduces. Therefore, to compensate condensation occurs in quantum levels. The presence of quantum levels results in the fracture of time, at the moment in-between levels, thus creating unique moments of space at each level.
  • This implies that Matter stretches through numerous quantum levels, but throughout each level space remains non-unique, i.e. unchanged, while time is unique.
  • The uniqueness of time within a given quantum level creates a reality that can be objectified only in that quantum level.
  • Since Mind is the personification of Being, and since Matter is Being condensed in space and time, then this implies that Mind personifies the entire spectrum of Matter through all its quantum levels of realisation.
  • Matter can only realize its personification through feeding Mind with Experience. In other words, Matter is only able to realize itself through Mind. And, this is done only by providing Mind with input data in the form of Experience. Thus Mind without any input is inert.
  • Experience is obtained from the interaction of Matter with the environment.
  • Experience is realized and channelled through to the Mind via the use of Awareness.
  • Awareness could be visualized as a sheath between Matter and Mind. It is the conduit through which information is passed between the Matter and Mind.

Summary

The paradigm of Mind and Matter is based on our understanding of the phenomena of Existence, Creation, Matter and Mind. The paradigm of Mind and Matter explains that the key to understanding Mind or Matter is to understand the principle of Evolution. It explains that the principle of Evolution is the link between Mind and Matter. Mind and Matter are two aspects of Being where Being is Creation. Matter however, is the condensation of Being in space and time, while Mind is the tool with which Being, i.e. Matter, realizes its own self. The paradigm also lets us know that the condensation of Matter occurs in quantum-like steps with the result that space stays the same in each pocket of condensation while time is fractured at the point between each pocket. This implies that in each pocket, time is unique, i.e. unfolds at a different rate. This in turn implies that in each pocket Matter realizes its own self differently. Therefore, the manifestation of matter in each pocket will be different, despite the fact that the essence of matter remains unchanged. This is a profound discovery that will explain so many mysteries of Matter that man struggles to come to terms with today. Finally, the paradigm of Mind and Matter enables us to know that since Mind is the tool with which Matter realizes itself, then the only way to understand Mind and the dynamics of its many levels is to understand the nature of Experience.

Existence, Being and Creation

To study the link between Matter and Mind, we will need to familiarise ourselves with three concepts. They are: Evolution, Existence and Being.

Evolution

We shall begin with Evolution. What is Evolution? What does it entail? Well, Evolution is the principle that governs the dynamism of Creation. We know from observation that the dynamism of Creation appears to follow specific patterns for example, movement, the cycles of life and death. A logical question at this point would be to consider the nature and origin of the source of the dynamism in Creation. However, the answer to this question is not trivial and so we shall come back to it later. In the meantime, an even more pertinent question is to consider the reason for the specific patterns that Creation seems to adhere to rigorously. The answer to this is Evolution. Evolution is simply a law, a condition or a state that in some way defines or describes Creation. It is a law in the same way that Newton’s laws of motions are laws that describe the dynamics of motion between objects. Evolution can be considered a first principle because it is a law that depends on an assumption that cannot be proven.

Since Evolution defines Creation this implies that it was there at the beginning of Creation. In other words, the law of Evolution was activated at the instant Creation was brought into being. This implies that Creation had a source. Being part of Creation, it is impossible to determine the nature of this source as this would be tantamount to trying to see beyond ones beginning. Even though it is impossible to make any firm deductions on the exact origin and nature of this source, it would be logical to make deductions based on its impact. To this end we shall call the source Pre-Creation.

In attempting to understand the source of dynamism in Creation, it becomes obvious that since Evolution came into being at the inception of Creation, something must have occurred to ensure the transition of Creation from a state of Pre-Creation to a state of Creation. The only logical explanation is that Pre-Creation must have been subjected to an injection of impulse which resulted in the formation of Creation. The exact nature of this impulse is unclear and perhaps irrelevant in the context of our goal of trying to understand the dynamics of Creation. Many names have been given to this impulse over the years. Some call it energy, others call it God, and to others it is simply the First Cause. Whatever the nature of its origin, its effects imply that its physical embodiment must be Evolution. Therefore, Evolution and the impulse that kick started Creation are the same. It must be noted that Evolution did not predate Creation. Evolution and Creation occurred simultaneously. It is also worth noting that since Creation is contained within the sea of existence, then this implies that Pre-Creation is Existence for the simple reason that nothing cannot give rise to something.

The question of the exact origin and nature of the impulse that initiated the emergence of Creation, despite being valid, is irrelevant in the context of describing and understanding the dynamics of Creation. This is obvious given our previous argument that the impulse originated from outside Creation and as such is beyond the ability of the human mind – a part of Creation, to explain, illustrate or quantify. This implies that the only tool that is required to achieve our prime objective is the principle of Evolution, which is a first principle unto itself and thus can be described as a measurable property.

Existence

To do this we would need to come up with a way to describe the concept of Existence in the context of Creation. Remember that we have said that Pre-Creation is to all intent and purposes Existence. Therefore, we could describe Existence as a state that is characterized by an infinite potential (energy well) of unlimited depth and purpose. In other words, Existence could be regarded as an infinitely dimensionless potential well, where a potential well is defined as a mass of energy that can be made to perform work or a given function by constraining it with certain conditions. Given this definition, it becomes obvious that existence can be likened to a infinite and bottomless well of energy that is without direction or purpose. In other words, the potential that characterizes existence is in its original state non-dynamic. So how can this definition be linked to Creation? Well, remember that the introduction of the principle of Evolution into the sea of existence i.e. Pre-Creation, had the effect of imposing laws that kick-started and maintained dynamism in Creation. This implies that the principle of Evolution in effect imposed boundary conditions in the potential that characterizes non-dynamic existence. And this resulted in the formation and maintenance of dynamism in the sea of existence. Therefore, Creation can be defined as dynamic existence. In other words, the only thing that differentiates dynamic and non-dynamic existence is the principle of Evolution.

Being

The third important concept to get to grips with is the concept of being. Being can be defined as the state of dynamic existence. This definition implies that it is possible that there could be many states of existence. Whether this is true or not, is irrelevant to us because we are only interested in Creation which is characterized by the state of dynamic existence to which we attribute the concept of Being. Any other state therefore is not Being. An important point to note here is that the fact that Being characterizes the state of dynamic existence implies that Being personifies Existence, where personification in this context refers to the requisite state or process of transformation that is necessary for a dormant condition to become active and self-sustaining. The importance of this property will become obvious in when we discuss the attributes of Mind and Consciousness.

And so to summarize, Creation – which is the sum of Existence as we realize it, exists only as a state of dynamic Existence. Creation has its source in the sea of non-dynamic Existence. Existence became dynamic only through of the injection of an impulse which kick started and maintained dynamism within it. The physical embodiment of this impulse is a set of laws known as Evolution.

What is Life

Questions aimed at uncovering the meaning of life have been floating around for a long time. And, as with most complex things the answers evolve with time. Today, depending on who is asked, life could mean one of many things. It could mean the existence of animate matter only. Or the definition could be broadened to encompass the existence of both animate and inanimate matter. Some however, see life as possessing many aspects, with all perceptible phenomena constituting one aspect and non-perceptible phenomena constituting different aspects of life that may or may not be relevant to us as human beings in light of the fact that their existence cannot be proved or disproved.

These differing views raise many questions concerning the nature and purpose of life. For example, where does life begin and where does it end. What is death? Does death constitute an end to life or is it symptomatic of something more? To understand the answer to these questions, perhaps the simplest approach would be to identify the common link that runs through all the views held by the various schools of thought and use this as a starting point. After doing just this, we find that the common link is the term existence. Despite the fact that there is no universal consensus as to what exactly constitutes existence, it is possible to arrive at an understanding by using the tried and tested method of starting from a baseline and building upwards. And, with regards to existence, the base line is creation. A naive definition of creation would be the sum total of all that exists in the physical world. Since the physical world is made up of matter, this would imply that creation is nothing other than one huge soup of matter. Science has shown us that matter is made up of particles. This would imply that creation is a gigantic soup of particles. Now, if creation is made up of matter, this would imply that creation by definition must have had a beginning and will therefore have an end. Or does it? Not necessarily. Because science has shown two things; the first is that what were once thought to be the basic building blocks of matter may not necessarily be basic after all; the second is that our perception of what actually constitutes physical matter is deceptively misleading. The spectrum of matter stretches far beyond the range of any optical technology we posses today. For example, scientific discoveries have shown that an in-depth study of an object, say, a table using an unimaginably powerful magnifying apparatus would show, not a table, but an immense cluster of particles with empty spaces in between and all held together by forces of varying strength. The same applies to any solid matter - trees, cars, the human body and so on.

Thus, science makes very clear that strictly speaking, in the world of matter, there is no such thing as an absolute beginning or end. There are only boundaries. And these boundaries are constraints within which an object is described as exhibiting certain properties with the highest degree of certainty possible. For example, using the concept of distance as a measuring tool, the length of a chair can be measured with a high degree of confidence as having a beginning and an end but only within a certain degree of tolerance. The more precisely one tries to measure the length – the beginning and the end of the chair, the more indeterminate the result. Therefore, the notion of a beginning and an end can, in truth, only ever be measured relative to a prior condition or state. This is also true when one considers the dynamics of any element within creation such as organic matter. Scientific observation shows conclusively that life of organic matter is observed to unfold in cycles of birth and death. In other words, it unfolds in cycles of continuity. Animals reproduce their kind, who mature from infancy into adulthood, reproduces more of its kind, before dying and passing the mantle to its progeny. And so the cycle continues. This lends weight to the notion that the concepts of beginning and end are not absolutes but relative.

Now it is known that matter isn’t the only thing that exists, Mind is another concept that describes a state of existence that is associated with the non-physical part of the human body and which by virtue of its existence, forms a part of creation. Since this is the case, then our naive definition of creation as simply the sum total of the physical world would need to be adjusted to encompass all possible forms of existence. And so, having established that matter, which is one form of existence, has neither beginning nor end in the absolute sense of the word, what does this tell us about all other possible forms of creation? It tells us that since it is logical to assume that all aspects of creation must be interconnected in some way, then the theory of continuity implies that all forms creation must exhibit the same property of continuity.

This implies that in order for creation to uphold the property of continuity, the evolution of creation can only take place through transitions. This is exemplified, at least in the world of matter by cycles of birth and death. This implies that the phenomena of birth and death are only transitions that take place within the continuity of creation – of life.

With regard to the concept of an after-life – heaven, hell, purgatory or what have you, it is clear that the realization that birth and death are simply transitional states in the continuity of life lends irrefutable evidence that there is such a thing as the after-life. In fact, it is worth noting at this point that if we are to go by our definition of creation as encompassing all matter - animate or otherwise, then the term after-life is incorrect. It is incorrect because the after-life is generally thought to refer to existence in a non-physical world. Therefore, in the strict sense of the word, there is no such thing as an after-life. In any case, it is clear that the dynamics of existence in the after-life is still very little understood. The reason for this is simple, since existence in the after-life revolves around a world that is non-physical, it is difficult to measure or verify because to do this would require an understanding of how to move back and forth through the transitions of birth and death. To take a first step in this direction, humanity must first understand the dynamics of creation. This will entail a subsequent understanding between the various manifestations of creation, two of which are Matter and Mind.
