Implications of the Interacting Mind – Part 2

In the post “Moving towards a Quantitative Understanding of Mind – Part 3”, we arrived at the conclusion that the interaction between the energy potential of units of Matter led to the formation of Group Mind. We also concluded that there are two types of Group Mind that can be formed – a Unique Group Mind and a Virtual Group Mind. The former is formed between units of Matter for which the condition t1 ≈ t2 ≈ t3 ... ≈ tn, and E1≈ E2, ≈ E3, ... ≈ En holds, while the latter is formed when t1 ≠ t2 ≠ t3 ... ≠ tn, while E1≠ E2, ≠ E3, ... ≠ En is true. In the first instance, the Group Mind that is formed is unique because it is directly associated with Matter because all its component units conform to a single moment of intrinsic time. In the second instance, the Group Mind that is formed is virtual because it is not associated with any unique moment of intrinsic Mind. It is associated simultaneously to all possible moments of intrinsic time. And in so doing exerts an influence on all Matter that go towards its formation. We also gave a few examples of unique Group Mind – e.g, the Mind of a human being, the Mind of a Dog, cat, Plant, and so on. Examples of virtual Group Mind are Society, Company, Government, Any enterprise that involves more than one person, A hive of bees, A pack of wolves, a school of fish, a gaggle of geese, and so on the list is endless.

These examples make us immediately aware of a few important points:
  • The collection of units of Matter expresses itself as a single unit through the Group Mind. This is beautifully expressed by the human body, which expresses itself as a single unit through the human Mind.
  • Similarly the collection of any group of individually unique units of Matter can only express itself as a single unit through the virtual Group Mind which controls their behaviour and interaction with each other as a single unit. This statement is verified by observing the behavioural patterns of any group of animals – bees, of wolves, human beings, birds, etc.
  • Just as the unique Group Mind gets its input data from the experiences of the single cluster of Matter, e.g the human being, so too does the virtual Group Mind get its input data from the aggregate experiences of the collective clusters of Matter. In other words, just as the various aspects of the unique Group Mind is formed from experiences e.g. emotional, mental, analytical aspects of the human Mind, so too the various aspects of the Virtual Group Mind is formed and given strength, e.g societal law and order, religion, ethics, and all the various sectors of society.
The last bullet point immediately brings to mind an earlier topic that was discussed – demand. It becomes obvious that response to the phenomena of demand is what generates the experiences that the virtual Group Mind uses as input data.

The virtual Group Mind that is associated with the collective must dominate the unique Group Mind that is associated with the single cluster of Matter. In other words, any cluster of Matter can and must express itself through its unique Group Mind and the virtual Group Mind. This explains the mechanism of the vehicle through which the principle of Evolution (link) carries out her prime objective. It also brings to our attention the fact that for complex clusters of Matter, for example, human beings, there will always be friction between the individual and group Minds trying to exert their influence simultaneously. This friction is in large part responsible for the problems we face in society today.
