Implications of the Interacting Mind - Part 3

Today we will focus on two topics – The personification of Being and the impact of Time on the evolution of Matter.

Personification of Being

Our discussions on the properties of Mind and Matter have led us to the conclusion that Matter realizes itself through Mind resulting in the formation of a personalized representation of its being. This is a non-trivial statement. To give concrete examples of its implication, consider the human being; we know that the cluster of units of Matter that make up what we have come to identify as the human body realizes itself through the human Mind, i.e. the unique Group Mind associated with the body. Therefore, the implication is that this realization gives form to the Being of the cluster of Matter that makes up the body by personalizing it. In other words, what the human senses perceive to be the human body is nothing but an illusion in the sense that it is not the true form of the actual units of Matter. The human body as we know it and see it, is simply what the cluster of cells that make up the body perceives to be the personalized representation of its Being based on what it's Mind – the Group Mind, tells it.

The concept of personalization is very important because it is the only process by which we are able to concretize the world within and around us.

Fig. 1 illustrates the principle of concretization. We see that the world we perceive has nothing to do with the true nature of Matter or Mind, it is simply the by-product of Matter working with Mind in accordance with the dictates of Evolution. In other words Matter can never be able to perceive the Mind. It can only perceive its Personality, which is itself the result of the fusion between Mind and Matter.

The Impact of Time on the evolution of Matter

In the preceeding posts, we arrived at the conclusion that the formation of Group Mind is directly dependent on the characteristic of time-moment experienced by the composite units of Matter. We also concluded that there are two types of time-moment, intrinsic time and relative time. The former gives rise to unique Group Mind and the latter to virtual Group Mind. The moment of time at any given energy level constrains the manner in which Matter communicates with Mind in its bid to realize itself. In other words, time is the most crucial factor needed to quantify the evolution of the life of Matter. The constraints of time give shape, depth, and substance to Experience, which is what the Mind uses as input data to form the personality, which in turn is what enables Matter to realize itself. Thus, time can be used to describe the evolution of Matter through its cycles of birth–maturity–death.

Fig. 2 is a three-dimensional plot represented only in two-dimensions to illustrate the evolution of Matter at an arbitrary energy level as it uses Experience to realize itself through its Mind. The third dimension, space, is not shown here for simplicity. The green box represents Mind. It sits inside a potential well, which has boundaries of space and time(Matter). The evolution of Matter is along the x-axis and is a non-trivial function of both intrinsic and relative time which combine in a non-trivial manner to form Experience. Experience thus defines the evolution of life of Matter at any energy level. Three sections have been selected arbitrarily in the graph to denote key phases in the acquisition of Experience by Matter as it evolves. Note that the plotted distribution is a simplistic approximation of what the true distribution would look like.

Phase A – Birth:

During this phase there is a sharp exponential-like increase in the acquisition of Experience by Matter as Mind sucks in the “input data” – Experience, in order to give definition to the personality so that Matter attains an increasingly defined realization of its own being. Note that at the instant of birth, Mind is already fully formed. This must be the case since the template structure of Matter itself is already fully formed at birth. The Mind however is blank, docile, and not able to perform any work until it begins to receive data from Matter in the form of Experience. A crude analogy would be to consider electric current. It flows around passively in cables and wires in our homes. And only when an electric bulb is connected to a socket does the electric current perform work by generating light.

Consider the human being. It is the most complex single conglomerate of Matter on earth. At birth, the baby has a fully formed and functional Mind. The baby however is without the skills that are commonplace with adults, for example, thinking logically, speaking words, walking, running etc. This is because it has not yet formed the personality with which it can define and concretize the external and internal world. So, the baby begins to interact with the environment from its first breadth. It starts off by crying, sucking, moving its arms and feet, etc. Then it graduates to crawling, making sounds, laughing, and eventually walking and talking and so on. These are all vital Experiences, which are essential for the baby’s progress. The Mind takes these Experiences as data and uses it to form a personality that empowers the baby to interact and communicate with the environment in a specific way. The personality that is formed is unique to the baby only. It is a function of the energy and intrinsic time of the units of Matter of which the baby is composed. It is also a function of the energy and relative time of all other units of Matter in Creation.

Phase B – Maturity:

During this phase, the rate at which Matter accrues Experience reaches its peak and flattens out. The consequence is that the template structure of the personality is fully formed. The ability of Matter to concretize the world around it is at its peak. Matter has now attained a full realization of its personality, i.e. it’s Being. With regards to the human being, this would correspond to adulthood.

Phase C – Death:

During this phase, the rate of accrual of Experience peters out. Using the example of the electric bulb, this phase would be analogous to the bulb dying out due to wear and tear of the element. The current still flows but is unable to get through. Similarly, Mind becomes increasingly inactive. Very little work is done by way of adding to the depth of the personality. Matter becomes increasingly disconnected from its Mind. With regards to human beings, this would correspond to death.

It is worth emphasising here that the y-axis in Fig. 2 tells us that there is no limit to how strong or deep the Personality can be. In other words there is no limit to the clarity with which Matter is able to realize its own being. The development of Matter is solely dependent on the nature, volume and type of its experiences. With respect to human beings this would explain why socio-economic and technological progression increases with successive generations, because each generation starts off learning where its predecessors left off by swimming in the ripples created by their experiences.

An interesting question to ponder at this point would be what happens before birth and what happens after death? In other words, what does the evolution of matter look like in the pre birth and post death phases of existence at a given energy level? This is a valid question because we know that in existence there is no such thing as a beginning or an end. However, to answer this would require an understanding of the impact of space on the evolution of Matter. This will be the subject of another posting.
